Senior Night for the Elon men's basketball team was nothing short of EPIC. I have never seen a game like this in my life. The game went into double overtime and we lost in the last SECOND when Davidson shot two three-pointers. I was holding my breath the entire 10 minutes of overtimes, and I'm still in shock that we lost 96-99. Heartbreaker.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010

Tonight, I went to midnight meals with my friend Laura Ward to find out how we did in the "I'm An Elon Leader" video contest. Our video ended up winning first place! My heart was beating out of my chest after they announced the third and second place winners because I totally did not expect to win first. The other videos were so good! But before the announcement, Twisted Measure performed a few really awesome songs...

The Pendulum break is broken

My first article and videos of the semester ran with today's edition of The Pendulum. It's been a while since I've contributed because I was abroad for Winter Term and the final semester of senior year has been holding me back. But it's about time!

Features is definitely my calling in life, so my first story was about a mock Jewish wedding held on campus. Here is my story, and here is my video:

I also shot my first basketball video! I absolutely adore shooting sports video and I've made it a goal to shoot every sport before I graduate...I have a couple more to go. Shooting basketball was a completely different experience than shooting football (I'm fairly certain nothing can beat the fun I had all fall), but I still had a wonderful time trying something new!

I apologize for the lack of adventurous photography this month. I've spent way too much time cooped up in my apartment doing homework and reading. And on the days I've had the ability to step outside, the fresh air has been overwhelmed with snow or rain. Today I did make time for one of my favorite movies, though, "(500) Days of Summer." This represents my evening's order of business...

It was too difficult for me to juggle the still and video cameras at the basketball game Monday night, so here's a still image from my favorite moment I caught on video...it features one of my favorite people on earth, Dr. Earl Danieley.

My first Pendulum article/video of the semester is on the mock Jewish wedding sponsored by Hillel tonight. It was a really neat experience and even more interesting since two girls were mock married...the brides said it happened by chance because no men volunteered! This photo is from the part in the ceremony where the brides smash a glass wrapped in a cloth.

A thousand a day...71 + a Dose of Nostalgia

Two interesting surprises were waiting for me in my mailbox this afternoon - two things I haven't thought about since the day they were written. One is a letter written to myself by myself on March 31, 2007, spring semester of my freshman year at Elon. The second is a list of four things I wanted to improve about myself, dated April 2, 2007. As soon as I opened the letter and realized what it was, I could picture myself sitting in Harden dining hall writing it with my fellow freshman fellows and Emerging Leaders.

I had joined Leadership Fellows lateral entry and applied in the fall to start in the spring. I wrote the letter in what was probably one of my very first workshops. The theme of the first year in the Isabella Cannon Leadership Program (ICLP) is "Self," hence the list of four things I wanted to personally improve upon. It's so funny to look back on them...especially now that it's my last semester here. Here's an abbreviated version of my goals back then:
  1. Go to the gym much more often and continue to eat healthy.
  2. Learn to forgive others. Put the past behind me.
  3. Continue helping others and loving people more than they love me. Do unto others as you want them to do unto you.
  4. Succeed in classes - stay on course and don't get discouraged by others.

A thousand a day...69

There might be a little too much (of the same) Taylor in my room.

Side note: I have been cooped up in my apartment since Saturday writing research papers non-stop, hence the lack of variety in my photos. But when I turned around from my desk last night, I noticed I had Taylor times two until March, so I thought that was amusing.

After a day filled with nothing but writing research papers (OK, I did multitask to watch the Olympics for a bit), the one thing keeping my morale up is my beautiful flowers and the comfort of my room. I make sure to surround myself by trinkets...some are on my desk and bookshelf while others (tons of photos on my walls) are reflected in the vase of my roses.

"I'm an Elon Leader" Video Contest

In my senior Producing for Broadcast and New Media course, we received a neat video assignment on the first day of class. Along with Laura Ward and Samantha Miller, I helped create this video for the "I'm an Elon Leader" video contest. If we win, we get $300! We came up with the idea and how we wanted it to look visually, wrote the script and set out to find typical Elon students doing everyday tasks that represent leadership.

One of my best friends, Alexa, is getting married in October 2011, so a few of us went with her to a bridal show in Greensboro where we saw stands for photographers, DJs, balloons, dresses, tuxes, dishes and, by far the best (since we got taste testers), cake...
